Celebrate Your Wedding With A Blast From The Past

Function Central

When it comes to choosing the entertainment for a wedding reception, there’s a lot to choose from. For example you could hire a DJ to keep your guests entertained throughout the evening, or even choose one of the many bands for hire which regularly perform at wedding receptions. The beauty of hiring a DJ means you can pretty much leave them to it, as an experienced wedding DJ will play something for everyone, young and old. However for something a little more memorable, then hiring a live band or wedding singer is the way to go, but bear in mind that most live bands and wedding singers reside within a certain musical niche. This niche could be modern rock & pop or funk & soul from the sixties & seventies. Yet in spite of how ‘versatile’ any of the bands for hire may claim to be, their strong point will be within their niche genre.

This is not a bad thing as instead of hiring a band or singer whose repertoire consists of the same old tired and tested wedding music bands’ tend to play, why not have a look at some of the tribute bands for hire and celebrate your wedding with a blast from the past? You and your partner may be die hard ABBA fans so what better then having an ABBA tribute band perform at your wedding? ABBA may not be to everyone’s taste but once the band starts playing you and your guests will realise they’re the kind of infectious that is good to spread around. Going further back in time brings us to the swinging sixties and this decade also has more than it’s fair share of wedding singers and tribute bands. There’s plenty of Beatles tribute acts on the circuit, some of which can also branch out to performing hits made famous by the Kinks, the Rolling Stones and The Who, amongst many others.

Tribute bands know no bounds and there are plenty to choose from whose preferred genre hails from the post-war ‘rat-pack’ era and the pre-war swing & big-band eras. Music from the former half of the twentieth century is timeless and engaging; from the memorable clarinet of Benny Goodman to the easy listening vibes of  Frank Sinatra, Dean Martin and Sammy Davies Jnr. Your wedding is one of the most special days of your life and is one event which all your friends and family can share with you. So give them something to remember by hiring a tribute band to play classic songs from days gone by as you and your partner look forward to to many years together.

Differences In Work Ethic Between Russians And Americans by John Kunkle

Lynn Visson’s “Wedded Strangers” identifies differences in work ethic between Russians and Americans:

Americans, with a work ethic, grew up knowing they would have to work hard to get a job. For Russians, under the Soviet system, the government found them a job or they got a job through personal contacts.”

Under the Soviet system, the idea was to get away with as little work as possible, as there were no pay raises. There was no real threat of getting fired either. Working hard just led to more work.”

For women in the Soviet Union, the workplace was a place to gossip, sell each other clothes, and exchange tips on where to get consumer goods.”

To Russians, Americans are time obsessed. To Americans, time is money. To Russians, relationships are more important than time.”

Lynn Visson’s “Wedded Strangers” talks about further distinctions between Russians and Americans:

The worst thing a Russian can say about you is that you are dry. Meaning that you are cold and logical. Outpourings of emotion in private life are balanced by extreme restraint in public life.”

Russians smile when there is something to smile about for example, when they are with their family and friends and the vodka is flowing.

Russians have what is best described as a dry sense of humor. They make jokes that are very sharp or witty. They can be also be very sarcastic. They make humorous comments that require intelligence and a keen understanding of a situation to be funny.

The Russian delivers his joke or funny story with a serious expression on his face, while everyone else bursts into laughter. If he laughs with the others, it spoils the joke.

Lynn talks about different perceptions of time:

Being late is part of the Russian makeup. Being late was a way of showing contempt for the system and of asserting self. To Russians, appointments are guidelines.”

Americans do one thing at a time. They value short-term relationships and take deadlines seriously. Russians do a variety of things at one time, they value long term relationships, and they are flexible about appointments.”

John has been married to a Russian women for over five years. He has travelled the path from finding her, to traveling to Russia, to bring his wife to America, and adjusting to married life. He will show you step by step how to do this yourself.
